Nichino America, Inc. Announces Section 18 Emergency Exemption for Courier® SC to Combat Rice Delphacid
April 27, 2026 — Wilmington, Delaware
To address the emerging threat of Rice Delphacid (Tagosodes orizicolus), Nichino America, Inc. has secured a Section 18 Quarantine Exemption for Courier® SC insecticide. This authorization enables rice growers in the Mid-South to utilize a proven Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) to mitigate the risk of nutrient depletion and the transmission of Rice Hoja Blanca Virus (RHBV).
Technical Specifications & Use Guidelines
Courier SC utilizes the active ingredient buprofezin, which inhibits chitin biosynthesis. This mode of action specifically targets the nymphal stages of the insect by interfering with the molting process, resulting in effective population suppression and a break in the pest life cycle.
Section 18 Label:
- Authorized Geography: AR, LA, MS, and TX.
- Target Pest: Nymphal stages of Rice Delphacid (T. orizicolus).
- Application Rate: 9.0 – 13.6 fl oz/acre.
- Max Annual Use: Two (2) applications per year.
- Minimum Retreatment Interval (RTI): 7 days.
- Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): 14 days.
Strategic IPM Integration
Courier SC serves as the technical foundation for Rice Delphacid management. While highly effective against nymphs, Courier SC should be tank-mixed with an adulticide under high-pressure scenarios to provide immediate knockdown of adult populations and comprehensive residual control.
Celebrating 25 years of technical excellence, Nichino America continues to prioritize delivering innovative chemistries that align with modern Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and resistance management programs.
